Why YOU should try Yoga!

Yoga can be traced right back to the Stone Age and it’s an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing. Its purpose is to support mental and physical wellbeing using a series of poses, meditation and breathing exercises. It’s a widespread and popular exercise so you are likely to find all different classes at local yoga studios, leisure centres, community and venues and even in schools and hospitals.

Do I have to be in good physical shape to do yoga?

We always advise to check with your GP before starting any exercise. A gentle yoga class is a great way to get moving more without putting a lot of stress on your body if you are worried about mobility and health issues. Some people feel they are not flexible enough to do yoga but the great thing is, you don’t need to be! Yoga will help you increase your flexibility in a safe and comfortable way and is perfect for any body type.

Is Yoga expensive?

You can find many classes in leisure centres and community venues which are affordable and some yoga studios offer pay as you feel classes and karma yoga (free class in exchange for volunteering time at the studio).

Do I need to bring my own gear and have the latest yoga fashion?

No! Many classes will provide mats and will advise to just wear comfortable loose clothing.

There are many benefits to yoga which keep bringing people back to the practice. Here are some of our favourite ones!

  • An easy and gentle way to build strength and flexibility.
  • Can help ease joint and muscle pain.
  • Promote feelings of relaxation and help sleep.
  • Help improve your balance.
  • Can calm the nervous system down and make you feel less stressed.
  • Some yoga can count towards your 150 minutes of exercise.
